One Climate Future Climate Action Plan
Portland and South Portland, ME
In 2019, the Cities of Portland and South Portland, Maine partnered to produce “One Climate Future,” a joint commitment and plan between two of Maine’s largest cities for creating a prosperous and inclusive low-carbon future. The process was led by Linnean, and included bringing together organizations, businesses, and residents across the cities to develop a collective roadmap; assessing vulnerability to hazards across infrastructural, social, environmental, and economic systems; producing community-wide greenhouse gas emissions inventories; modeling future emissions under a variety of policy scenarios; and developing a set of actions related to buildings, energy, transportation, waste, and community resilience.
The project team gathered input and collaborated with community constituents through workshops, surveys, a youth street team, as well as focus groups and partnerships with community advocates to co-develop portions of the plan. Each of these components worked in tandem with sowing the seeds for ongoing plan implementation, climate conversations, and community action. Project team members include Integral Group, Kim Lundgren Associates, Woodard & Curran, and Carl Eppich.
